Pike Perch is a freshwater fish with an incredible delicate meat structure. Therefore, it is also highly appreciated all over Europe and sold as high priced seafood delicacy in top restaurants.
In nature, it mainly lives in lakes throughout Europe, the Nordic and Baltic countries, Russia and Kazakstan. Each year the catches of the wild Pike Perch are gradually reduced, the individuals become smaller, and in some lakes the species is gradually depleted.
AquaPri by 2010 has succeeded to farm more than 100 tons of pike perch per year, including a large production of pike perch fry (German: Setzlinge) for further farming in external farms all over Europe.
The farming primarily takes place in closed curcuit systems in Egtved, close to Vejle in Denmark. By May 2010, we have started farming up to 200 tons in a new facility near Holstebro in Denmark.
Farming pike perch is an extremely difficult science, and especially the farming of fry and juveniles prove difficult, partly due to the cannbalistic nature of the fish.
